Section B: This 10 session, three hour class meets Saturday mornings 11:00am-2:00pm from January 13, 2018, through March 17, 2018.

This is a new format for The Drawing Studio. Instead of mixing the drawers and painters at the intermediate level, I am going to start alternating terms emphasizing drawing and painting. Beginning painting exercises will help students become comfortable experimenting with acrylic paint, using paint expressively, and reworking paintings. More experienced acrylic painters may also take this class and elect to follow the exercises or work independently as they choose. There will be occasional figure models but far fewer than in the Intermediate Drawing class (depending upon the number of experienced painters in the group and their interests).

Students who have not taken from Phil before, should take Introduction to Drawing before taking other Drawing Studio classes, even if very experienced. The experienced artists who have taken Intro Drawing over the years have all said that it was unlike any coursework they had previously taken and that it really helped their work.

This class could also be great for drawers who want to work from 2d subjects to build their skills before moving into more intense figure work.

Materials: For the first session, painters should bring some acrylic colors you like, acrylic titanium white, acrylic gloss gel medium, some cheap brushes about 3/4 to 1 inch wide, and any shape palette knife. We will begin painting on the studio paper, so no canvasses are necessary. Drawers only need to bring graphite, charcoal, and erasers. Paper will always be provided.
